Vol. 19 No. 1 - Spring, 2005 | ||||
| Dear Friends,
Thank you for your prayers and support, which make it possible for me to continue my work with Wycliffe. Here is my current update. Traveling Again I left Charlotte on January 11, and flew to Richmond, VA where I conducted a two-day pre-conference seminar for The Next Step, an organization for trainers from many different mission organizations. The conference was held at the Baptist International Mission Board Conference Center. My sessions were well attended, and from Richmond I flew directly to the Wycliffe International Headquarters in Texas for my upcoming teaching schedule there. "Train the Trainer" Courses in Dallas Several topics were scheduled for January and February, with a focus on training the participants to deliver these seminars and workshops to others. Because of the blessing of the Everett Foundation funds that we have received, we were able to offer financial assistance for course fees for those who had that need. For all of the topics that were facilitated, we were blessed to have participants who came from a variety of overseas locations. Training for Administrative and Departmental Teambuilding (January 17 February 3) The teambuilding training was divided into three sections, over a three-week period of time. The first week we taught the general team topics (defining your team, gifts and abilities, spiritual perspectives, commitment, communication, team roles, vision and growth, and goals and objectives). The second week the focus was on "dealing with conflict biblically," and during the third week we discussed leadership and management issues. Days of Reflection and Prayer (January 21 and February 3) These two days of reflection and prayer were not only for participants in the team training, but other persons at our Dallas Center could attend as well. On both of these days, after a time of worship and a brief overview of the topic, each individual found a quiet place for a time of solitude and reflection. At the end of the reflection time, there was group sharing and prayer. On January 21, I facilitated "Finding A Rhythm of Rest" (how can we find time for a real "Sabbath" a time to take our hands from the plow, let our work lay fallow and let God and others take care of things?). "The Servant Leader" was the topic for February 3. Jesus demonstrated that a leader is called to be a servant (the servant heart: character; the servant head: methods; and the servant hands: behavior). The DISC Certification (February 7 to 9) The DISC Person to Person instrument is a fun way to assess personality traits and to help people understand themselves by understanding how others perceive them. It fosters teamwork and minimizes team conflict, improves communication skills, helps develop strategies to meet diverse needs, and enhances coaching and mentoring skills. |
Jesus, the Master Teacher (February 14 to 18) Participants learned about Jesus' methods and style, and the principles that we can apply as we try to reach people where they areand at their level of understanding. The workshop included practical applications, the use of resources, and developing a mission statement that focused on personal growth in teaching others in the ways that Jesus exemplified. What's Next? I returned to Charlotte on February 22, and was delighted to facilitate a day of reflection and prayer on February 26 for the Third Presbyterian leadership group. In upcoming weeks I will have several days of personal retreat time, attend a conference in Florida, and begin preparing for my upcoming seminars and workshops. I would like to close with this reading by Brent Chambers:To Know God and To Make Him Known You have called us to Your Kingdom you have called us to proclaim. You have called us to the nations to reveal Your awesome name. You have graced us with Your power, and our heart's cry is to know You, and to make You known. We have heard the Great Commission; we have heard the Master's call. We've forsaken much to follow You, and we gladly give our all. We reach out to touch the sceptre as we kneel before Your throne to know You, and to make You known. You have called us from our countries, from our livelihoods and friends to demonstrate good news to all nations where you send. And the cry of Your disciples that we make our very own: to know You, and to make You known. Thank You . . .
In Joy I Serve Him, Are You Electronic?
